This October, I had the privilege of attending the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) conference for the very first time. While I’ve spent nearly a decade in the police equipment industry, this event provided a unique opportunity to step out of the engineering back room (where they often tucked us away) and engage directly with the broader law enforcement community. And what an event it was! From cutting-edge technologies to insightful conversations with industry leaders, IACP 2024 exceeded every expectation.

The Event and the Venue
The conference took place in the heart of downtown Boston, a city that proved to be an outstanding host. The convention center’s central location made it easy to explore the vibrant streets, which remained bustling and well-lit even late into the evening. Boston Police Department Chief Michael Cox graciously took time to meet with attendees, further adding to the warm and professional atmosphere of the event. The city’s historical charm blended seamlessly with the futuristic themes showcased at IACP 2024.

A Showcase of Innovative Technology
One of the main draws of IACP is the incredible variety of technology on display. From virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) training systems to drones designed for first responders, the event offered a glimpse into the future of policing. Here are some of the most notable innovations and products that caught my attention:

Building IFAKs, Medical Bags, and Patrol Kits: The conference included practical guides on assembling first-line rescue equipment. These sessions emphasized the importance of tailored medical kits for specific scenarios.
